Attending the GAC and receiving a tremendous honor

During my recent Government Affairs Conference trip to Washington, DC with the NCBFAA, I had the pleasure of meeting with several of our Washington representatives and even caught a photo with Congressman John Barrow. Our “March on the Hill” was to help enlighten Congress of issues that impact international trade.

Some issues we discussed were the Customs Reauthorization Bill; Water Resource Bill and Harbor Maintenance Fees; renewal of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP); Role of the Broker; and other trade matter issues.

By far though the most rewarding discussions were about our Troops to Trade Specialist initiative. The NCBFAA Educational Institute (NEI) is currently working with the Veteran’s Administration to have industry training offered by the NEI –(their Certified Customs Specialist [CCS] and Certified Export Specialist [CES] programs). We are hoping to get the cost for these courses funded under the GI Bill. After GAC. I was contacted by NEI Chairman Ken Bargteil, who asked me to Chair the Working Group for this program, a request I graciously accepted with honor.
